Rolling tool bags are one of the most versatile gear you need. Even if you’re a carpenter, electrician, utility man or a student, you can use a rolling tool bag to carry supplies and things in bulk. People who buy rolling tool bags usually look at a couple of things (or complain if it they aren’t done well).
There are several shops online that are selling popular brands of these bags, however, I found that most of them are expensive, lacks some features I like or they aren’t durable at all. You need to examine these bags thoroughly or else you might end up buying another one after just months of using it. Talking about waste of money during times of credit crunch!
What you need to do is planning ahead those things you “need” before the things you “like”. Most of the time people get impulsive over buying a particular product without ever thinking if he or she really needs it and for how long. These same individuals end up wasting their money on some mediocre quality product which they won’t be using for the long haul.
These are some of the items I suggest you consider before choosing the rolling tool bag for your next journey to your shop, school, dormitory or anywhere else.
1. Durability
This I think is the main thing you should look upon before purchasing your rolling tool bag. Durable bags are made from nylon and coupled with bungee straps for additional compartments. It’s retractable handle needs to be carefully examine if it locks in place properly and if it’s made of sturdy aluminum (light weight but sturdy material).
One of the most common problems you may encounter on your rolling tool bags are the wheels. You should examine if the wheels are “roller blades type” because these are sturdier and more robust type of wheels compare with small and irregular shape style ones. This is the part which usually gives out if you accidentally put heavy load in it or drive it into a crack on the sidewalk.

2. Pockets
People buy rolling tool bags for one sole purpose – to carry things. This may range to levels, saw, hammer, screw drivers for carpenters to books, clothes and other school supplies for Joe going to college dormitory. You need to check the number of pockets /compartments (internal and external) available at your disposal. Most people need a lot of compartments to put tools and small things while some only need a few. It depends. Thus, it is necessary to check if the rolling tool bag you’re planning to buy has enough to fit your needs. You won’t be able to judge correctly just by imagining how it would look like so you better need to get enough information about the product to know so.
3. Dimensions and weight
Some people could be contented with small rolling tool bags while others need big and bulky type of bags. You should check if the dimensions (L x W x H) are suited to your liking or if it would fit the trunk of your car! Also, the weight of the materials used to construct the rolling tool bag might be too heavy that you end up carrying only a few tools. Look for light yet sturdy type of materials so you can maximize the loading you can carry with your rolling bag.
Those are some of the things I usually put in my list before buying a rolling tool bag for myself or my family. Of course, there are other things you should consider but for now, this is a great start to getting yourself a great deal and save money for other things.
